We are Here to Help!

Our goal is to help all students feel welcome and safe at the university, to help them take advantage of the rich  opportunities and support resources available at Tufts.

Don't hesitate to contact us.

Specific Ways the Dean of Students Office Can Help You

If you have suggestions and do not know where to go.
If you want to create something new; a program, a service or an organization, that can be shared or offered to other students, and you need support or help with your idea.
If you are concerned about your safety or an experience or incident on campus, including your relationship to others (a peer, a staff member or a faculty member), that may be interfering with your living and learning on campus.
If you want to learn about campus resources.
If you have an emergency (physical, personal, family, etc.) or are worried about a friend in crisis.
If you or someone you know have experienced an incident of bias, hate or harassment.
If you are having personal problems that you need help with or just want to talk about. These may include homesickness, other “feeling out of sorts issues”, addictive problems, disputes with your peers, needing to miss class – just about anything. Our staff can help, or, if needed, help you find other resources.
If you experience behavior on campus that is hurtful, disruptive in the classroom or affects civil dialogue on campus, we can address the issues, even though hurtful behavior can’t always be stopped.  We try to balance the values of non-discrimination with the tenets of free speech.
If you feel you have been victimized or harassed by another in the university, our office provides a judicial affairs system that includes arbitration and mediation to help you resolve your own problems, hopefully amicably, as well as fact finding hearing procedures.  To read the Tufts Student Judicial Process, click here.
If you have questions about academic integrity and ethics, including plagiarism and the appropriate use of electronic resources at the university.  Responsible use policies concerning electronic resources are essential for you to know.  You should refer to the on-line publication Academic Integrity @ Tufts.  It includes a down-to-earth description of some of the more important principles.
If you are interested in our efforts to provide a welcoming environment for all at Tufts, you may want to see the publication published by the Group of Six, which includes the Dean of Students’ Centers for many of the community’s populations.   You may also find out about the Centers’ work, which offer unique services and programs that enrich multicultural life on campus.
If you are concerned about residential life issues, the Residential Life Office in South hall is your best resource.  The publication Habitats describes many Residential Life policies and option.
To launch your involvement in any one of a huge range of student organizations on campus or to get involved in the work of the class councils or student government, the Office of Student Activities is an excellent starting point for information.
If you are concerned about privacy issues or any legal issues that may affect you, including privacy of your directory information, records, what the university talks to your families about, restraining orders, other court involvement, come see us in the Dean of Students’ suite of offices in Dowling Hall.
You should also know that the university offers a comprehensive Health Service, including an Alcohol and a Health Educator, and a full service Counseling Center, both of which are available to you twenty-four hours a day.  After hours, you may reach these resources through the Tufts Police at 627-6911 (off campus) 6-6911 (on campus).
