Abstract

The presentation will cover Web-based automated transfer evaluation system, enrollment services, and freshman planning and registration as well as integrating both printed information and academic advisors in the decision support system.

Biographical Information

Gary Kramer, Associate Dean of Admissions and Records and Professor, Department of Counseling and Special Education, Brigham Young University

Associate Dean of Admissions and Records and professor, counseling psychology department at Brigham Young University.  He has published nearly fifty scholarly papers in nine refereed journals, edited five monographs, authored eight monograph and book chapters, and delivered more than 150 presentations to a wide variety of professional organizations.  In addition to serving as president, Kramer has received the association’s awards for research, service, and excellence in the field of advising. He received his Ph.D. degree (1977) in Education and Counseling from Oregon State University.

Erlend Peterson, Dean of Admissions and Records, Brigham Young University

Erlend D. “Pete” Peterson is dean of Admissions and Records at Brigham Young University. Pete received his doctorate in Higher Education Administration at BYU and is an assistant professor of Educational Leadership. As a leader in the use of technology in higher education he has presented extensively at national conferences; published several articles; and is a consultant to universities in the use of technology. Pete has been instrumental in BYU's national leadership in using technology for student services, and recognized nationally for his leadership in the development of the first touchtone telephone/voice response registration system.

Michael E. McCauley, Director, Academic Systems, Ball State University

Michael E. McCauley, Director of Academic Systems earned both his bachelors and masters degrees from Ball State.  Nineteen of his 33 years at Ball State were spent as an academic advisor and advising administrator.  In 1986 he became the manager for the automated degree audit project followed by additional computerized application projects (catalog, course master, academic facilities, and transfer course articulation).  Mike serves on the Ball State “re-engineering” committee, and represents academic affairs on the web administrators committee.  He has held leadership roles in national educational associations and from 1995-97 was president of the National Academic Advising Association (NACADA). Mike has authored chapters for three monographs and two books in the last five years, and recently was named the resource person for the statewide transfer initiative sponsored by the Indiana Commission for Higher Education.
