Abstract

This panel will discuss the design and development of Web portals and web applications with extensive functionality at two institutions, Indiana University and Louisiana State University.  Each will describe their respective experiences, applications and services offered, the technology behind the infrastructure, and the implementation issues encountered.  Issues, challenges and the benefits derived from extending enterprise services to the Web will also be discussed.

 

Biographical Information

Mark M. McConahay , Associate Registrar, Systems , B.A.  Mathematics 1979; M.S. Environmental Science 1984  

Mr. McConahay began work at Indiana University in 1982 as an Analyst Programmer.  He became the Assistant Registrar and Manager of Computer Operations in 1984 and has been the Associate Registrar, Systems since 1990.  He was a member of two teams that have received the CAUSE Best Practice Award:  one in 1995 for the Automated Course Exchange and again 1998 for the Expanded Grade Context Record.  He has also received the CUMREC Best Paper Award in 1996 and 1999. He currently serves as President of CUMREC, the Higher Education Administrative Technology Conference.

 

Robin R. Ethridge, Manager of Electronic Approval and Workflow Systems, B.S., Accounting 1991; MBA, Information Systems 1994

Robin Ethridge is a Manager with the Office of Computing Services and has worked in the administrative computing department since 1993, developing information systems in the areas of Institutional Finances, Student Finance, and Student Enrollment Management.  She serves as project leader for the Personal Access Web Services (PAWS) system, a web-based enterprise solution for the delivery of educational knowledge and administrative tools.  She has co-written three papers on PAWS, receiving the 2000 Educause Best Practice Award and the 1998 and 2000 CUMREC Best Paper Awards.
