q       UTDirect customizes the users' experience their first time into UTDirect by detecting which one of 11 categories a person belongs to, then creating a default home page and default navigation bar options for them based on that category.

q       UTDirect comprised over 70 services in the initial release.

q       UTDirect is constituent-centered providing customized Internet communications.

q       Product of UTDirect is not simply a web portal into itself, but a cultural shift in the university’s system development philosophy.

q       UTDirect has been a catalyst for integrating services across university administrative offices in a single, comprehensive suite of services with the goal of  reducing the time and effort required for constituents (i.e., students) to take care of administrative tasks with the university.

 

 

Abstract

UTDirect is a single Internet-based point of contact for University core constituents.  It is the gateway to electronic services and is the foundation of each person's electronic relationship with The University.  UTDirect is The University's main electronic presence and means through which all core constituents will interact with UT. Core constituents include faculty, staff, students, and alumni in all stages of their relationship with UT from prospect and beyond.  This includes all facets and phases of a core constituent's relationship with UT—from prospective student to alum, encompassing academics, business interactions, entertainment and recreation, development activities and much more.

As Director, Student Information Systems, I oversee the information technology needs for the Division of Students Affairs, especially those within the offices of Admissions and Registrar.  Being in my 13th year at the university, I am also serving the profession as Vice President of Information Technology for SACRAO (Southern Association of Collegiate Registrar’s and Admission Officers) as well as chairing the TACRAO (Texas Association of Collegiate Registrar’s and Admission Officers) Technology Committee. I have a BS in Communications from UT Austin.
